Research grants

Thanks to the generosity of our supporters, the Foundation grants funding for local health and medical research to improve the health and wellbeing of Tasmanians. This funding supports research into chronic diseases, maternal and infant health, aged care and the social determinants of health.

2024 Grant Round

The Foundation will be awarding $600,000 in grant funding in 2024 to support Incubator pilot studies, Project grants and a three-year major research study. Applications open on Monday 5 June 2023, and close at 5pm, Friday 14 July 2023.

Incubator grants up to $10,000 each

This funding supports one-year investigations to allow researchers to create a pilot study or an opportunity to gather empirical evidence. Incubator grants will be awarded to standalone projects that are not part of a broader research program.

Two additional targeted Incubator grants are offered for research into:

  • improving the lives of those diagnosed with primary brain cancer
  • improving quality of life for those expeiencing, or at risk of, lung disease related to smoking

These are in addition to the Foundation's general funding pool.

Project grants up to $25,000 each

Project grants provide funding for one-year investigations. They may evolve from earlier funding through an Incubator grant or where evidence demonstrates a higher level of investment is warranted.

An additional targeted Project grant is offered for research into life-threatening conditions of infancy.

Major Project grant up to $450,000

The Foundation offers a single Major Project Grant of up to $450,000 over three years, to be allocated as $150,000 per annum. The Major Project grant enables an early to mid-career researcher and their team to undertake a focused program of research, with a strong focus on collaboration across disciplines and researchers.
