Fundraising and Flamboyance to launch our inaugural Melbourne Cup Lunch!

Tuesday, 12 December 2017 - 11:26am

The 2017 Melbourne Cup Lunch presented by Hobart Autohaus, was the Foundation’s first foray into holding our own Melbourne Cup event, but proved to be a hugely successful one!

As guests wound their way up the Derwent on a sunny Hobart day there was all the colour and glamour befitting any Melbourne Cup event. What made this group even more special is that they were on their way to Mona to raise funds for local medical research at the 2017 RHH Research Foundation Melbourne Cup Lunch presented by Hobart Autohaus.

There were acrobats and aerialists and an arch of local vibrant flowers to greet guests. ‘Barry Heywood the Bookie’ came to service the racing enthusiasts and to be on hand to provide a good tip for those just wanting to have a flutter. But amongst all the flair, when CEO Heather Francis took to the stage it was clear that everyone in the room was hugely delighted to support the Foundation and the work we do raising funds for local medical research that benefits all Tasmanians. Our guests were also treated to the first look at the all new BMW X3 via a reveal by Gold Partners Hobart Autohaus – what a coup!

To keep with the flair and fun that is Melbourne Cup, we hosted Fashions on the Field and a Fashion Parade was also a big hit. It was clear that guests enjoyed showing off their finery while local designers showcased their collections for the upcoming season. As the day drew to a close everyone involved had shown their understanding of just how important the funds we raise are for local medical research and we are pleased to say we raised just over $17k – almost the equivalent sum to enable two research grants.

We would like to extend a huge THANK YOU to our Gold Partners Hobart Autohaus and our Corporate Partners Hays plus Dobson Mitchell Allport, without their support the day just wouldn’t have been possible.

As a charity, our fundraising is very reliant on in-kind support, and with this in mind we wish to thank the following Tasmanian companies for their generous donations:

• Pumphouse Point • Peppermint Bay Hotel and Cruise • Brooke Street Pier • Fullers Bookshop • Papillon Health & Beauty Centre • Theatre Royal (Hobart) • Miss Haidee Millinery • Institut Polaire • Shene Estate & Distillery • Hartshorn Distillery • Forty Spotted Rare Tasmanian Gin • Earthworm Landscaping • Performance Painting • Laser Electrical Moonah • Slipstream Circus • Mona Museum

And to our incredible fashion designers Adorn by Sarah Bishop, Sea Urchin Design, Sea Soul Studio, Marilena Di Florio & Miss Haidee Millinery & She Management, thank you for adding even more colour to our day!
