The local research supported by the Royal Hobart Hospital Research Foundation is decided after a competitive application process and rigorous peer review. Only projects and researchers of excellence are selected to pursue their investigations in Tasmania.

The Research Foundation only funds top quality projects which use sound medical and scientific techniques, and will benefit the health and well being of the hospital’s patients and the people of Tasmania.

The RHHRF’s independent Scientific Research Advisory Committee (SRAC) undertakes the evaluation of applications and makes recommendations on funding based on independent assessments of all applications.

Donations, bequests, gifts and corporate sponsorships are the life-blood of the Foundation’s work. It is only with the continuing generosity of the community and the corporate sector that the RHH Research Foundation continues its ongoing support for research.

Many of our researchers and investigators are on the brink of a medical breakthrough - but it won’t happen without the commitment of significant financial resources. Research is expensive, and it takes time. Tasmania cannot fall behind in the advancement of medical and healthcare research.

This year, the Research Foundation has set a goal to raise $1,500,000 through donations, corporate sponsorships, gifts, special fundraising events, raffles and a lot of hard work! Please help us raise our target this year. Your support is critical to the health of our community. Every dollar that is donated stays in Tasmania and is spent on research that will benefit Tasmanians and beyond.

The Foundation is funding active research programs into cancer, cardiovascular disease, glaucoma and cataracts, thyroid diseases, diabetes, bone marrow transplants, auto-immune diseases, neurological conditions, asthma, osteoporosis, leukaemia, Alzheimer’s, Multiple Sclerosis and many more! The Foundation has also created seven full-time post-doctoral research fellowships, investigating Parkinson’s disease, cystic fibrosis and general respiratory illnesses.
