It is top quality research that has opened up the medical secrets of the last 100 years and has brought to light so many life-saving discoveries that have changed our world and improved our quality of life. While our medical achievements have been spectacular there are still many questions to be answered and problems to be solved.
It takes many, small incremental steps over an extended period of time to achieve the medical breakthroughs that are necessary for improved patient care, and the cure and the treatment of a variety of diseases and conditions.

For every breakthrough in medical science enormous resources are committed to research and development. Exhaustive research, the acquisition of special equipment, time consuming tests, and endless hours of data collection and painstaking documentation come before each new procedure, treatment or cure.
Since its inception the Royal Hobart Hospital Research Foundation has funded a variety of local research grants which address many issues affecting the health and quality of life of Tasmanians. The Foundation has now moved to the funding of full-time research positions, significantly increasing the infrastructure and peronnel involved in top local research. We cannot afford to fall behind in the field of medical research in Tasmania. It is essential that these and future projects are fully supported with all the necessary material and financial resources.
Since its first grant round in 1998, the Research Foundation has provided more than $4.5 million to fund local research projects and fellowship positions, and to enable the purchase of vital equipment to assist the building of research capacity.
